The newly inaugurated officers of the Students’ Union Government of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede have been reminded about the three significant attributes that make the institution a brand of choice, a reason they must strive at all times to protect its image.
One of these defining points is that the institution has remained the best-performing polytechnic in Nigeria. Two, the polytechnic is currently a Centre of Excellence for ICT. Three, the school has remained the most-sought-after polytechnic in Nigeria according to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The Rector of the institution, Engr Dr M.C. Arimanwa FNSE identified these attributes while receiving in audience the students’ leaders at the Council Chambers of the polytechnic.
According to the poly supremo, the Students’ Union Government should be on the vanguard of attitudinal change in the polytechnic, since other students are liable to look up to them as a standard. He, therefore, tasked them not to undermine the school by engaging in anti-social acts, as the management would not relent in taking punitive measures against offenders of the law.
The Rector also warned the students to be warry of distracting tendencies that may affect their academic pursuit, advising against intellectual indolence. Moving forward, the poly boss charged the students, “Remember you are here first and foremost as students, hence you must read your books and pass your exams. It is important you don’t allow the extra responsibility you decided to carry to weigh down your performance because other students must look up to you.”
In the end, the Rector read the riot act to them: “You must be perfect examples for other students. You must not be violent or associated with any vices. You must be a standard for the students in all ramification. You must be extremely careful with how you comport yourself within and without the campus.”
In his vote of thanks, Comrade Valentine Ahaneku, the SUG President, expressed his overwhelming joy at the warm reception granted them by the Rector, pledging to abide by the exhortations they have received from the chief executive of the polytechnic.
