- Salutes Rector for excellent achievements - *Grants Scholarship to indigent students*
A group, Fratelo Foundation, has announced plans to partner with the Federal Polytechnic Nekede in the areas of scholarships and international linkages.
The organization made this known today when its Managing Director, Mr. Bertram Uzodinma, paid a visit to the Rector, Engr. Dr. Michael Arimanwa FNSE. Uzodinma further stated that he was attracted to the Federal Polytechnic Nekede by the excellent achievements of the Rector hence his quests to explore areas where his group could collaborate with the institution.
Mr. Uzodinma also hailed the Rector for the various measures taken by his administration to redirect the ethical focus of students. In his words, “I want to thank God for what He is using you to do in this institution. We have heard of your marvelous work in the school and we have come to identify with you. I read about the ban you imposed on student drivers on campus and was impressed with the measure taken to check depravity among students. I like people and institutions who are progressive and you are one of them.”
The group, therefore, announced plans to leverage on its international connections to attract development in areas of need in the polytechnic. In the meantime, the group has given an initial grant of half a million naira to the polytechnic to fund the tuition demands of select indigent students, pledging to increase it as the demand rises.
In his remarks, the Rector appreciated Mr Uzodinma and his team for their kind gesture towards the polytechnic. He He recounted how he had early in his administration created the Directorate of Linkages and Interventions as a springboard for linking the institution to local and foreign organizations. In his words, “It is my desire to leave a lasting impact in Federal Polytechnic Nekede hence the creation of the Directorate of Linkages and Interventions. And I can tell you that we have been able to build worthy collaborations within and outside the country. Our partnership with the largest Tilapia Fishery, Lofty Farms Lome, Togo, is yielding fruits already as our Fish Farm is 90% ready. Selected students from our institution have just returned from an exchange course in Togo.
The Rector also informed his visitors that the polytechnic has a collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria which resulted in their donation of a Bankers Hall to the institution, fully equipped with modern facilities and Wi-Fi network. He also revealed that polytechnic has an MoU with Innoson Motors which is active.
Meanwhile, the Rector has stated that the polytechnic under his watch has been liberal to the indigent through the establishment of the Polytechnic Foundation which renders help to them. He further disclosed that he had used every Matriculation under him to offer scholarships to select disabled students. This is in addition to the scholarship grants the Management gives to indigent students through the three Chaplaincies in the polytechnic.
According to the Rector, “A nation could be changed through one person offered help today. As we create opportunities for people, we see testimonies come out of those ventures with time. The biggest testimonies we have is the act of lifting others.”
Meanwhile, the Director of Linkages and Interventions in the Polytechnic, whose office coordinated the visit of the Fratelo Group, Dr. Austine Madu, pointed out that the group is passionate about improving the lives of students through the establishment of a scholarship scheme in the polytechnic, adding that its Managing Director, Mr Bertram Uzodinma, is a philanthropist of note.
It will be recalled that last March, a group Jamie Pajoel International, was also in the polytechnic where it offered scholarship to four students who made the best results in the Department of Business Management and Administration, from ND I to HND II. The group hailed the Rector on the massive developmental initiatives that have brought the institution to limelight, a factor which attracted him to extend a hand of fellowship, promising to make it an annual event.
